Took a break from heavier genre's with this book. Historical Christian fiction. Ruby and her younger sister, Opal, are left in their paternal grandmother's care by their father after their mother's death. He is headed West to make his fortune. When their grandmother passes, Ruby is employed as a nanny for an affluent NY family and she and Opal become part of the family. When a shocking letter is received by their father, presumed dead, asking them to join him in the Little Missouri territory before his impending death, their adventures begin. Interesting and very challenging times ahead for them. Enjoyable read!!!!

This was a great book. Didnt realize I would enjoy these books from so long ago. It kept my attention as well as any we have read from the present day. We didnt know it had a prior book "Pearle" when we read it and would have liked to read that one first but at the same time it really didnt matter.

This is a wonderful book! I am so glad it is only Book #1 of this series of Books. I stayed up all night to finish reading it. I have now requested the other three. I can hardly wait for them to arrive! These stories take place in Dakota Territory about the same time my grandfather's family was there. It is so fascinating to read about life in that era, especially when you consider how rapidly life has changed since that time.

I love Historical Inspirational Fiction. If you like this genre you are in for a treat. In this book ruby travels from New York City where she lived an easy life in the wealth of society. She went to work and live with a wealthy family after her grandmother passed away. Her father who had abandoned her years earlier had sent for her on his dying bed. When she reached in the Dakota territory to find her dad dying her life began to change. Ruby a strong woman and caretaker of the other weeker women in the story.

I love Lauraine Snelling. I don't know how I have missed reading her works earlier. I'm working on going back and getting all of her series read.

I really liked the sisters and the manner in which the author portrayed them as proper ladies. When they were thrust into ownership of a brothel in the middle of nowhere, it was almost comical as to the naivete of Ruby. I really wanted her to get hooked up with Rand but the author just stopped the book. I felt like I was in the middle of a sentence and then it ended. Hoping to pick up the story in the continuation of the series.

This book was a slow read for me. It didn't grab my attention as other triology books have. This was also my first time reading a book written by Lauraine Snelling.

I stopped reading at chapter 9. Not thrilled with my first Lauraine Snelling book. Also, that building on the cover? Yeah, it's a brothel. Lovely, right? *sarcasm* So even to chapter 9 there's a lot of mentions of what goes on, "working girls", gambling, saloons, drinking, staring at a girl to see if she could work, etc. Not happy. Not happy at all.
