This book is compiled largely from the separate diaries they kept throughout the 8 1/2 mo. voyage the Ridgways tell their whole story, from financing and building their boat, the Debenhamas, to the pssychological and other pressures assoc. with life on board shared for long hard wks. at sea by 11 men and 1 woman united by a common aim but divided by age,temperament, and experience. A 2 man tv crew was on board from beginning to end with a free hand to film and record the action and reaction above and below decks- the good times and the bad, the excitement of competitive sailing, the encounters with wild life and icebergs together with boredome, squalor and discomfort, explosions of anger and frustration.
