Okay, I've looked over all the suggestions made, and have made adjustments. The challenge is to read 12 from the following 15 categories (or 6, if you doing the light challenge):

1. made into film--

2. new-to-you author--

3. lost in translation--

4. book you consider short--

5. book you consider long--

6. a book you haven't read yet by a favorite classic author--

7. a classic you've always meant to read--

8. a book you didn't get to in a previous challenge--

9. book that won an award--

10. set in colonial history--

11. set during a war--

12-13. two books set in a particular continent

14. pre-19th century classic

15. wild card

Comments?

I'm new to PBS, but have made a commitment to revive my love for the classics this year.  Is anyone welcome to join this challenge?

Okay, I'm in. #8 "leftovers" is, I second or third, a really good idea. I have some classic mysteries left over from 2014.

2.   New to me author -- Living in the Maniototo, by Janet Frame, a New Zealander  If it impresses me, I will probably go on to read another of her books, The  Carpathians.

4.   Book I consider short -- One Writer's Beginnings, by Eudora Welty.  114 pp.  The Pulitzer Prize-winning fiction writer gives a lesson in how to look at a life, how to see it as an art form, not a chronicle, but a drama.

8.   Book I didn't get to in a previous challenge -- The Saga of Gösta Berling, by Selma Lagerlof.  This first novel by the 1909 winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature was the basis of a 1924 silent film of the same name that launched Greta Garbo into stardom.

Barbara, you can skip #8. You only have to pick 12 categories.
