The 1st book in this series was enough to make me continue on to book two. Book two was a great book, very solid. I like that this character is a strong determined person, not dingy, quirky or haphazard. The main topic, organic vs pesticides, was an interesting topic to me, and that topic was informative without being preachy or judgmental. I think one of the greatest quotes from the book was "any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind", by John Donne. To me it is the best motive for a character wanting to find the murder.

But as a cozy reader will you like it? YES? Now on to book 3.

I really enjoyed this book. Learned a lot about apples and refurbishing turn of the century homes. That is why I like cozy mysteries, you learn things you don't in just run of the mill mysteries. Some yummy sounding apple recipes too.

In this second book of the Orchard Mystery series, it is spring. Meg is attempting to learn how to run an orchard through taking classes at the university and hiring an assistant. On one of her excursions to the orchard to attempt to apply what she has learned, Meg discovers a body in her springhouse. The only good thing about this is that she has no idea who it is. Sadly, that doesn't prevent Detective Marcus from considering her a suspect especially when it is found that the person died from outdated pesticide from Meg's barn. This does not bode well because the dead man was the head of a local organic farming group, and two of Meg's farming support system have major ties with the chemical company in the area.

With this book, the orchard manager is introduced who I assume will be part of the upcoming books. This book also seemed, to me, to give both sides of the chemical/non-chemical debate that goes on in all aspects of the farming community and in this case the use of pesticides in orchards. The author does not dismiss either out of hand, and she allows Meg to contemplate the positive aspects of both use and non-use.

I was not disappointed in this book and look forward to reading the next in the series.

I did not like this book. I enjoyed the first few chapters, as the characters were introduced and the scene was set, but then the apples starting rolling downhill from there. The murder/mystery itself was OK, but like 50% of the book tells about the main character learning about her new farm and learning how to run an orchard and all of the zillion things she needs to learn. I like to learn a little something about the topic in a "cozy" but this gave me way more than I would ever want to know. BORING. I had to skim through the last two thirds just to get to the end. I will not be reading another one in this series for sure.
