This is a 1983 reprint of the book published twenty years earlier, not a second edition. The author is a novelist, who has done his research, and it is a pleasant read. He emphasizes the human story of the family over the business and economic history, although the high points such as the purchase of the Khedive's shares in the Canal are included. An overall theme is that they stood tall for their religion.
Sample: "Nature had equipped Louis well for his role. Slim, blonde, handsome, the image of the Anglo-Saxon aristocrat for all his synagogue-going, he could give his spareness of speech a disarmingly simple or forbiddingly aloof nuance."
