Rose Of Sharon 1896 1974 Author:Jonathan Kensett Dear reader, if you have read OHIO and IN THE DAYS OF CORONADO and TERRAM NOVAM and NOWHERE I would like to say thanks and welcome you back and invite you to read ROSE OF SHARON 1896-1974, the fifth novel of this series which I never intended to write. Dear reader, if you have not read any of my novels and are considering purchasing this one, I ... more »would recommend that you purchase and read the first four. I invite all my readers to share this wild adventure, this arduous journey, this incredible odyssey along with me through the years 1729-2004 and 1542-2006 and 120-142 and 1868-2005 and 1896-1974. And, I am now writing the sixth novel of the series, THE SIX POINTS OF THE STAR, about the return to Terram Novam by six brave men and a dog. They are returning on behalf of their ancestors to find the treasure. This story begins in Anno Domini 280. I do not know in what year it will end. Dear reader, I was given some family heirlooms, old, Daguerreotype photographs, a Shawnee flint knife in a sheath attached to a beaded belt, a horse's silver bit and bridle from the early 1700's, journals, letters, scraps of paper with names and dates and notes. A man named Abby Vredenburgh gave these things to me one evening after I had dinner with him at his house in Sunbury, Ohio. Abby had spotted me earlier that day at a reenactment of the 1862 Battle of Second Bull Run from the American Civil War. I had gone Ohio to cover the event and write a series of articles for Stars and Stripes Magazine. As I said, I never intended to write this series and sometimes I wish I could stop. But I cannot. And I want to say too that my poor power to tell this story is all I can offer but I offer it with sincerity of heart and strong conviction that this story must be told. I owe it to those whom I have met here, in history, and I owe it to anyone who will listen. More about ROSE OF SHARON 1896-1974: It is the story of the town of Rose of Sharon, Ohio viewed through the lives of three men and their families, Skip Molenaar, his son Nicky Molenaar and Nicky's son, Fred Molenaar. Nicky survived a difficult upbringing and the trenches of World War 1 and struggles to keep his sanity for the rest of his life. Fred is Nicky's child, his only son; Fred struggles with having been raised by a father who has turned bitter and cynical; Fred has flashbacks of his combat experiences as an infantry rifleman in World War 2.
