Part truth/part fiction about an Irish Catholic baby who is orphaned and ends up being raised Amish. Rich account of Amish life!

I had some trouble getting into this book, the Irish brogue of the early characters was a bit much to take. But once it became a book about the Amish, I became totally involved in the story. I don't think I could ever be Amish, I don't have the energy!

Rosanna was born to a Catholic family, but out of necessity was adopted by a single Amish woman. The book was written by Rosanna's grandson, thus is written by an Amishman. The reader gets an insider's view of the Amish society. I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about these people and their customs.
Lightly fictionalized life of Yoder's mother in the Old Order Amish community in Pennsylvania and continues with the author going away to college and eventually leaving the Amish community. Sold more than 400,000 copies.
Very informative book. I enjoyed it.
Rosanna of the Amish" tells the unusual story of an Irish orphan, Rosanna McGonegal, who was reared by Elizabeth Yoder, an unmarried Amish woman. The author, Rosanna's youngest son, reveals how she was initiated into Amish ways and adopted their customs and practices. This book portrays simply and honestly the religious, social, and economic traditions the Amish have followed for three centuries and still follow.
