This is my absolute favorite book from childhood. I read it in third grade, and again and again after that and I have never forgotten it.

I read this book as an adolescent and never forgot it. A coming of age novel that deals very effectively with the complex issue of racism and prejudice.

This book exposes you to what Mississippi was back then. I enjoyed reading this book. It was a required book in my 6th grade class and I'm glad it was. I've read this book a couple times and I greatly enjoyed it. After reading this book, Mildred D. Taylor became one of my favorite author's and I picked up The Land(which is the prequel). It as well is a wonderful book. I highly recommend this book.
This book opens eyes to race relations in earlier times. Good for young readers to learn about the past prejudices and great for older readers as well.....to keep their eyes & minds open to prejudices. A keeper!

An excellent read for adults as well as young readers. I didn't read it when it was published in 1976 thinking that at 22 I was too "adult". Like Harry Potter, though, this is a book that adults can become engrossed in. Cassie Logan is 9 years old in 1933. She lives in the south with her family during a shameful period of our past. She has to deal with extreme bigotry and racism from whites. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, though, she remains strong and proud. This story recounts a particularly strifeful year in the lives of Cassie & her family.
Great kids book - Newberry and many other awards. My kids really enjoyed it - the story of a girl named Cassie and her family enduring the depression and coping up with racism.

This is a powerful book in the Mildred D. Taylor series about the Logan family. Set during the Depression, this is a vivid story forthrightly describing racism and courage. It is recommended for ages 10 and up.

I remember reading this book when I was a little girl I loved it. Very heartwarming and heartwrenching at the same time. It gives you insight of what it was like living in the times of segregation being Black. There are 2 more books in this family. I would recommend it for young readers.
I read this book for a class I was taking on Children's Literature. It's an excellent book, well worth reading many times over. It's a story about love, family, hope and the capacity for human beings to retain their sense of pride despite all the ills of the world.

I absolutely love reading this book and i would read it a thousand times. Very good read for 7th grade and above i wouldnt recommend it for any younger then that.
