Excellent read! I was reading it when my Mom passed away and it really helped me with the grieving. It gave me ideas how to talk w/ my Mom. It also helped me to hang on to my faith. I gave this to my 13 year old nephew to read. I hope that it helps him as much as it helped me.

I knew this book was good even before I'd finished the first chapter. Emily is dealing with the death of her mom and moving with her dad to her aunt's house as well as a new high school all at once. She's also sorting through her faith and what's left of it even though she was always a believer before her mom passed away. It's very easy to relate to this character even without experiencing the loss of a loved one and despite all that goes down, there is so much humor and hope in the story.

Emily loves to work on cars and that's the best way she finds in dealing with her grief and connecting with God once again. I know nothing about cars, but the story is so well written I was pulled in as Emily sorts through her feelings. I loved her personality and even though her attitude bothered me at times, I understood her feelings completely. I also feel more comfortable wearing jeans and sneakers than dresses :)

Loved Chelsea and wished friends like her existed in real life :) Zander is a wonderful guy, but so much more than a hottie or typical crush. He gets Emily, prays with her and for her, and his friendship is very special. I was amazed at his patience and understanding with her. I also really liked Whitney, despite how she gets off on the wrong foot with Emily. She became my hero in the end at how she backs Emily up.

Emily's dad is involved with her, but he comes off as a minor character in this because he has to deal with his grief differently. I kept hoping he'd stick up for Emily, but he did what he had to do. I enjoyed his conversations with Emily, but also hated when they got into arguments. His birthday present to Emily was so very precious!

Have lots of tissues ready to read this story, but soooo well done and loved every part of it!

About this book:

A very bumpy ride.
Emily Curtis is used to dealing with her problems while under the hood of an old Chevy, but when her mom dies, Emily's world seems shaken beyond repair. Driven from home by hospital bills they can't pay, Emily and her dad move in with his wealthy sister, who intends to make her niece more feminine---in other words, just like Whitney, Emily's perfect cousin. But when Emily hears the engine of a 1970 Dodge Challenger, and sees the cute gearhead, Zander, next door, things seem to be looking up.
But even working alongside Zander can't completely fix the hole in Emily's life. Ever since her mom died, Emily hasn't been able to pray, and no one---not even Zander---seems to understand. But sometimes the help you need can come from the person you least expect.

*Oh my goodness. I love this book.*

Ive read this book before, this is actually my third time reading it. Now, Im not one for re-reading books (Dont shoot me!) I feeling like the magic goes away. Haha. Not with Roadside Assistance. Uh-huh. Ive felt the same tears in the same spots, the laughter when Emilys being sarcastic and just hugging the book when Im done.

Folks, Ive been waiting for a sequel for two years now. When I interviewed Mrs. Clipston (hands down one of the best days of my life) and she said about a sequel to "Roadside Assistance", yes, I screamed. (Good thing it was an online interview! ;) )

*dramatic music* Today, Tuesday, February 04, 2014, we get a sequel! Yes, I was pestering calling my local LifeWay & Mardels asking them when theyll have it, its now in my hands. :D
