This is an incredible book about one of the worlds most amazing people!
As far as I know it is the only book out there that is a personal account of life in the sex trafficking industry.
Although she doesn't mention it in the book you can see that from the start of her life God was preparing her for a great calling. I was amazed by this womans inner strength. She is the voice for the silenced victims of sexual exploitation.
The book is easy to read and though the topic is not a pleasant one once you open this book you will not want to close it

A very good, but disturbing book about a woman's tragic childhood and courageous life. She is now an inspring worldwide figure helping woman all around the world escape sexual slavery and get respectable vocational training. The language / dialouge in the book is rather simple (b/c English is not her first language, I think), so this book reads very quickly and easily. Highly recommended.

A really good look at brothel's in Cambodia. Sex trafficking is a huge problem in today's society.

"The Road of Lost Innocence" is the story of a12 yr old Cambodian girl sold into slavery who finally escapes the brothels and goes on to rescue others, thousands of others. It is brutal and heart breaking but will, I pray, awaken a call to action. She had a very dangerous mission and no one wanted to help "prostitutes" return to meaningful lives. Somali did all of this, rescued them, some multiple times, gave them food and shelter and education in ways to support themelves through crafts, i.e. sewing, silk making, and knowledge of how to run a small business. But, most importantly, the organizaiton she founded provided care for the victims including medical care, and psychological and emotional support. The actions and belief system of both the Cambodian men and women running the sex slavery, the enforcement of "silence" and a girl's duty to support her relations is horrific, This should be a must read!

Somaly Mam gives us a view into her own life, something that is extremely rare for a bhuddist and Cambodian to do at all. She explains how women are regularly treated in her country. We see how mistreated young girls are as they are brutally beaten, drugged, and raped for profit. When Somaly was given a chance to get out of her forced lifestyle, she received more rights for simply being married to a white man, and used it to the advantage that saved and continues to save thousands of little girls. We need to take the information she has given us about things like having sex with young virgins can cure a man from AIDS, or that sewing up young girls over and over again because virgins sell for more, and how tiny children die every day through gang rapes, being starved and beaten, and having TB and other diseases that strip them of any life. These girls are forced into this and should instead be treated with kindness. No one should be treated like a commodity. This was an excellent book, and I am so glad that she shared her story with the world. I have read over a dozen human trafficking books, and this is one of the best ones.

Initially hesitant to read this book, I was hooked after the first page and finished it in a weekend. Extremely important subject matter which needs to have a light exposing it like Somaly has done here. I was in denial about the reality of the problem until several cases came up in our county, some involving children as young as three. Heartbreaking; pass the book along to anyone who might be touched and able to help.
