Multi-generational saga about a family from the end of WWI until near the end of WWII. The second of Ms. Keyes novels set in Louisiana, the d'Alvery family lives on a sugar cane plantation near Baton Rouge. The story involves their romances, troubles, careers, fortunes, neighbors, and family. Very enjoyable novel.

What a saga! Good times and bad are depicted for a couple of generations, you come to feel that you know these characters, they could be neighbors or family. I liked this book for giving me a real feeling for what life was like in this era.
