River of Gold, the second in the Takers series which (currently) numbers only two books is the perfect getaway. In a world starved for more Indiana Jones adventures, Josh Culhane & Fanny Mulrooney are just what the doctor ordered. The action follows the heroes from two perspectives. Josh Culhane, the adventure writer whose own adventures are as exciting as his hero, Sean Dodge, enters the story diving on the sunken wreck of a suspected smuggling ship. Attacked by Russian commandoes, her barely escapes, stowing away aboard their ship. Before long, he escapes from the Russians, and makes hs way toward a rendezvous with his girlfriend, the occult scholar, Mary-Frances Mulrooney. Mulrooney is following the trail of the legend of the Amazon women, and pursues her quest into the jungles of Brazil. While Culhane chases after her, he is tapped by a wealthy industrialist, to take a kidnap ransom up the river and deliver it to terrorists. The plot weaves through battles with bandits and Russian soldiers, and into the lost city where the descendants of the exiled Amazon warriors of Greek mythology now reside. The story is full of action and a few surprise twists. I definitely recommend that anyone who loves action like that in the Indiana Jones movies, picks up both of the Takers novels before the last few copies disappear forever.
