Will try more by Mills and I'd give a higher rating but it was just too long and drawn out, I got past the half mark then realized that it wasn't going anywhere but the plot just being repeated over and over so from that point did some skipping and skimming

Tom Clancy fans, meet a new player in the techno-thriller genre. "Rising Phoenix" is a novel of staggering proportions and chilling possibilities. A former DEA agent has a macabre plot to combat the drug problem - contaminate the drug supplies with an untraceable poison. His ex-partner is recruited to stop this twisted vengeance. A Columbian drug cartel leader, a President considered soft on crime and a Mafia chieftain all want this outbreak stopped for different reasons. Needs to be read in one sitting!

I enjoyed this book very much and that made me want to seek out other Mills' books. I liked Storming Heaven even more.

A political thriller involving a shadowy, right wing group flooding America's emergency rooms with dead and dying. Special Agent Mark Beamon, a maverick openiy disdainful of FBI rules is put in charge of the case, hopefully by his adversaires to fail. But Beamon realizes there is a eerily familiarity about his adversary, someone his encountered before, but not a criminal.......

Special agent Mark Beamon is a maverrick. His open disdain for the FBI's rules- and directors- has exiled him to a no-profile post in the boondocks.
But when a shadowy right-wing group starts fuooding America's emergency rooms with dead and dying, Beamon is summoned back to Washington. teamed with an icily efficient female field agent, he is given the thankless task of stopping the slaughter even though millions of Americans secretly approve of it.

FROM THE PUBLISHER
A deadly plague strikes America's cities. Hospital ERs are jammed, chaos reigns in the streets, men and woman are dropping like flies. Someone has taken the war on drugs into their own hands and poisoned the narcotics supply. And most chilling of all: the majority of Americans approve! Summoned back to Washington by the director who exiled him, maverick FBI agent Mark Beamon is given the thankless task of discovering who's behind the full-page ads that have suddenly appeared in newspapers across the country, giving addicts a simple choice:. Quit or die. Teamed with a female field agent as icily analytical as he is intuitive, Beamon begins a desperate "all-points" search, racing against the drug cartels, the Cosa Nostra, and the random violence on the streets, as the poisoned drugs take their grim toll.
