Good diversion from the usual Trek story with lots of background on Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln and their manipulation of mankind. Good blend of actual history too. While not my favorite book by a long shot (that would be Q-In-Law), it was a fun read. After the way Gary Seven fooled Kirk in that one episode, it was good to see him get beat up a bit in this story while also seeing loyal and typical smart blonde, Roberta Lincoln, go through some hijinks herself while saving his bacon. Don't forget Isis, the black cat as she plays an important role that both exposes more of her powers and yet adds to the mystery surrounding her. Kirk and crew do not appear much in book one after the first chapter, but the second book brings them into the story to participate in the hijinks to redirect mankind's sometimes misguided direction. All in all, a fun romp.

Greg Cox really "did his homework" on this one! Weaving together factual occurrences in late twentieth century world history with the fictional behind-the-scenes activities of Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln to present a very believable Star Trek story.

I have not read "Q-in-law" (yet), so cannot compare that novel to this one, as another reviewer did, so my opinion is that this is the BEST Star Trek/Star Wars novel I have read ... and I have read well over a hundred in each fictional world!

Greg Cox has become my favorite science fiction author with this book (and Volume 2 along with "Exile", which I am currently reading), supplanting Anne McCaffrey and the Pern world (and others!) in terms of pure enjoyment and "unable to put it down" readability. I am looking forward to acquiring the books of the Q Continuum next. ;^)
