Everyone has their hangups. What we need is the right someone to breach out defenses. Believing that you are just like one parent because the other parent says so can be so off-base. But when you grow up with an idea it becomes your reality. Even if you fight the idea, it can be the source of a lot of insecurity. You are who you are. You are not your father or mother, but an individual with your own value and worth. Both the hero and heroine realize the joyful truth through each other.
