Zozobra in 1945 or so. The details are amazing, especially considering that little has changed on the Plaza in Santa Fe since then. The story draws you in, and keeps you intertested page by page. The examination of racism and prejudice in the USA at that time is as fascinating as it is sad. But, that's the way it was. Things have changed, but that legacy remains. The interaction of a Chicago mobster type with the ordinary citizens of Santa Fe gives tremendous insight into that time period, as well and keeping us in suspense. If I hadn't donated platelets and plasma in the morning, had a Zoom meeeting at 2 pm, and a class from 6 pm to 8:30 pm, I'd have read it straight through in one day. I did not want to put it down.

I really enjoyed this atmospheric, slightly strange noir novel.
