Knowing little about Richard Petty other than his name and his association with NASCAR, I thought it would be interesting to learn about this very popular sport. I was stunned to learn that Petty is the winningest racer in NASCAR; over 34 years, he won 200 races. He was the first driver to win the NASCAR Cup championship 7 times (the others being Dale Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson). He is also the only driver to win under different point systems. He holds the record for the most wins in a single season (27 our to 49 races in 1967).

Frankly, this book is for a NASCAR fan; it is loaded with exciting excerpts of races and stats. I'm sure that racing fans will really enjoy this book. I'm not a racing fan, but I learned a great deal about the sport and some of the growing pains it went through to become a national sport.
