The Anglo-American alliance of WW II wasn't a bed of roses. There was a great culture clash both sides experienced, where both sides tried to facilitate but often failed, due to their different cultural mores.

"Overpaid, oversexed and over here" was a familiar refrain, but race, education, and cultural isolation also played havoc. In most cases, the efforts of both governments failed to make things easier. In fact, American policy did more to divide than unite. British contempt for American rude behavior and early American defeats didn't help. Yet, somehow it all worked out.

The author covers numerous areas where the cultures clashed and gives a better understanding of the problems both sides faced. As Churchill once remarked, "The only thing worse than fighting with allies, is fighting without them."

The American "occupation" of Britain did almost as much to change that country as World War II did.
