Given that the 20th century was characterized by revolutions of world-changing effect, the author tries to discover if they had shared essential features, or were unique, and what social effects they have had. Begins with the Russian and Chinese revolutions and goes on to Vietnam, Cuba, Nicaragua and Iran, with a discussion of Islamic fundamentalism, and concludes with the overthrow of Apartheid in South Africa. The author briefly discusses the geography and history of each country, only going in depth when discussing the build up and revolutionary happening. No need to get bogged down in every little detail with this book: it's an easy read if you are interested in the movements discussed.
