This is a beautifully written story of a woman's journey to find herself again after the loss of her twenty-five year marriage and her job. Losing them both to her assistant doesn't help. In addition to dealing with her loss, she must struggle to help her two twenty-something children deal with their parent's seperation and father's behavior, as well as caring for her ailing mother. Despite this, this is NOT a depressing book. Rose's feelings are something everyone experiences at some point in their life. But her gradual sense of renewal and purpose is wonderfully written and guarenteed to make you want to stand up and cheer. I have read this book many, many times and loved it every single time, which is the best recommendation I can give it.

I loved the way this book was written. It is funny and has alot of heart. This is the kind of book you want to curl up with and not stop reading until you have finished. It is a book that you will think about and smile when you are driving down the road after you have finished. This author was well worth the time i spent with her pages.

Thoughtful, funny, quirky novel about a forty-something wife and mother whose husband needs to "find himself"...

Completly hysterical. Her husband leaves her for HER secretary after twent plus years of marriage. Very insightful and reminds all of us that we will be ok after a broken heart. A MUST read....

Good book, but more serious in tone then I would have thought from the title. I expected a lot more humor.

The story of a woman who has lost both her career and her marriage after 25 years. The book was not as negative and vengeful as I has anticipated, but more a tale of Rose's growth and determination through the difficult days of transition. I enjoyed the story very much.

Funny and well-written. For any woman who despairs that the best is yet to come!

This was pretty good read. I would only say that she was much calmer than I would have been. A better title may have been Struggles of the Middle Aged Woman because there is not really anything she does that is dramatic she just copes with what is thrown at her.

This was a GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTTT book! I found it on the plane after one of my flites and figured I'd try it. It's the story of a woman who's settled in her life, career, and is finished raising her kids. One day her husband comes home to tell her he's leaving her. The next day she loses her job- and it continues from there. I liked it because it was so realistic. I totally imagined my mom threw the whole story, because she went through the same thing and had the same reactions. And she got her revenge in a not harsh way- she just grew into herself. Such a funny, sad tale that was a quick easy read- one I didn't want to end.

For twenty-five years, Rose Lloyd has juggled marriage, motherhood, and career with remarkable success. It has been a life of family picnics, books and wine, and cherished house, and her own exquisitely designed garden--- sunny and comfortable. But then the carefully managed existence to which Rose has become accustomed comes crashing down around her when--- over the course of days--- her marriage and her career both fall apart. Rose finds herself in mourning for the tenderness of a lost partnership, for a shattered domestic life, and for the lost confidence of a woman who, until now, had made her own way.

Can Rose, whose anguish is barely softened by the ministrations of friends and grown children with their own problems, ever start over? Not easily. But its amazing what prolonged reflection, the slimming effect of a lost appetite, a new slant on independence (and a little Parisian lingerie) will do. Especially when an old flame suddenly reappears.
