If you don't care for Nora Roberts BUT love Mystery/Dark Thrillers with a side of romance and a dash of comedy - then I think you'll love J.D. Robb's ... In Death series written by Nora Roberts alter ego.
I won't go into the details of the books but will tell you this: Superb character development, continuity of the story line (which means you really need to read the books in order although they can stand alone) is top notch, the relationships that are webbed and weaved together throughout each page are phenomenal and let's the reader 'really' get to know the characters.
Here's a list of all the books in order (I'm leaving off the 'In Death' part):
1 Naked

Really great read. The great development of the main characters keeps me intrigued.
I love Eve and her sassy smart ways..........another great book in the series. I can't wait to read the next one!!!
Seasoned author Nora Roberts, writing as Robb, delivers another exhilarating entry in her popular futuristic cop series featuring Eve Dallas (Seduction in Death, etc.). Dallas, a New York police lieutenant, is a hard-bitten warrior cop who buries the pain and anger of her early childhood by excelling on the job. In her latest adventure, all the usual suspects are back: Eve's charismatic husband, Roarke; her plucky assistant, Peabody; and hipster techno-geek McNab. For this round, their objective is to take down a woman Eve arrested 10 years ago, a poisoner named Julianna Dunne. Julianna's out on parole, and now rich old men are dying sudden deaths. What's more, the ex-con wants to exact a little revenge on her one-time adversary. Eve's search for Dunne takes her all over the country, and eventually to Dallas, Tex., the city that gave her both her name and a legacy of violent nightmares. This is a satisfying, well-paced novel that offers readers a little of everything sex, death, family drama and well-orchestrated chase scenes. Although Robb's plot is tight and suspenseful, the real pleasure here comes from watching Eve struggle to maintain her distance from others, even as she finds herself tied ever more closely to her friends and family by the bonds of love. (Mar. 5)Forecast: It's a given that Roberts's books will grace the bestseller charts, but a stylish cover image depicting a ghostly, Manhattan subway entrance may attract new readers.
Another J.D. Robb book and again I was not disappointed. I love Eve Dallas's character and personality. As always a good read.
Always a great read
Eve Dallas, Peabody, Roarke, McNabb and a stone cold killer - what more could you ask for?
Nora Roberts as J.D. Robb
The series is about a police officer named Eve Dallas and it takes place in the 2050's. Awsome series.

I loved it but Roarke went out of character to go to the Police Chief on his plan, knowing what Eve was enduring - bad timing on his part even if it worked.
The J.D. Robb series is the best!
I really like Nora Roberts writing as J.D. Robb.
When a man dies at his own birthday party, poisoned by cyanide, Lt. Eve Dallas is tossed into a man-hunt for a killer she has put away once before - a woman who does not hesitate to kill men for money or pleasure. Soon, Eve discovers that the killer is playing games with her - and that Roarke is a target. Complicating matters even more is the sudden appearance of Peabody's parents - and Eve has to deal with more revelations from her own tangled past.
These books just keep getting better as more and more, Eve is forced to deal with her past and struggles with the relationships she is building with the people in her life. I love how it isn't always improvement - sometimes she takes backward steps and has to be pulled out of old habits - it makes her seem more real.

A mad woman is released from prison and causes a lot of trouble for Eve Dallas and her crew. Peabody's family plays a larger role than normal and Dr. Mira. This is one of my favorite stories in the In Death series.
I love powerful Lt. Eve Dallas and how the complex New York City crimes are solved. If you don't wanna bite her husband, don't read these books! Nora Robert's best writing is as JD Robb in this "In Death" series of some 30+ stories to date. I collect all of the JD Robb books, but skip the Roberts, whose stories are not as tight as those about Lt. Eve Dallas - ass kicker! If the future of New York City is like this, I fear these futuristic killers who are sneaky and complex.
Another great "In Death" story.
I swear everyone one is better than the last. I absolutely love this series.
Enjoyed the book.
Great Series, always a good plot, this 1 is right up there. hard to not like authors plots and the people she brings along.Eve Dallas is the best. . . .and the setting in the future , just adds to the whole deal.

Best mystery series I have read.
Great!
Reading them all!! :)
Reading them all!! :)
A rich older man is poisoned on his birthday. Lt. Eve Dallas realizes who did the deed. The perpetrator is someone with a personal vendetta against Eve because she put her away 10-years ago. Now released early for good behavior, Julianna Dunne taunts Eve with every poisoning. Eve, Feeney, Peabody and McNab must find the perpetrator quickly, because Roarke is the next target.
This is a great installment in the series. While Eve and Roarke are in Texas trying to find information about the killer, they make a side visit to a place in Eve's past. And Peabody's parents are in town for a visit, just in time for Peabody to be solve her first solo case. My rating: 5 Stars.

I love all of these books. Set in 2050's but is not really futuristic. Highly recommend.
A book in the futuristic series. A birthday bash sets the scene for a frightening reunion with a killer from Eve Dallas's past...
Received from my sister in law . . . have not read
At exactly 7:30 PM, Walter Pettibone arrived home to find more than a hundred friends and family shouting, "Surprise!" It was his birthday.Although he had known about the planned event for weeks, the real surprise was yet to come. At 8:45 PM, a woman with elmerald eyes and red hair handed him a glass of champagne. One sip of birthday bubbly, and he was dead.
The woman's name is Julie Dockport. No one at the party knew who she was. But Detective Eve Dallas remembers her all too well. Eve was personally responsible for Julie's incarsaration nearly ten years ago. And now, let out on good behavior, she still has nothing but bad intentions. It appears she wants to meet Dallas again-----in a reunion neither will forget......
