Very disappointing, especially since "Sullivan's Island" is my favourite book by this author. Slow to get going -- I read 3/4 of the book before I finally just put it down because I was so bored. Way below this author's normal standards. Give this book a miss.

Blah, blah, blah. I thought that I would bang my head against the wall by the time I reached page 20. I love Dorothea Benton Frank, but this book was awful. Boring and idiotic main character, haunted house, ghosts and foolish choices. None of it interesting. A major disappointment. What happened? I hope that she recovers with her next book. Not recommended.

Not recommended. I wanted to poke my eyes out after the first 10 pages. This was the most unlikeable main character I have encountered in a long time. Completely unable to relate to the characters, who seemed like completely different people from the first book. You wouldn't recognize the whiney, simpering, idiot that is Beth. I usually enjoy DBF for what her work is, quick, light and easy to read. But this was unpolished, the dialogue was ridiculous and disjointed.

I agree with the other reviewers that this was definitely not up to the normal D. B. Frank standard. I read it all the way through, but only because I hate to stop reading a book once I start. Enjoyed the characters of Susan and Maggie (loved them in the original book) and Cecily, but wouldn't give two cents for the rest.

The book read like she wrote it on the fly. As another reviewer said....not Frank's best effort. If you are familiar with Sullivan's Island and get a kick out of seeing familiar places and people mentioned in print you will get some pleasure out of this book because it seems Frank just strung together local references and acquaintance's names with a very thin, silly plot. Not a great read.

Readers acquainted with Charleston and Sullivans Island, South Carolina may enjoy the descriptions of the town and island. Storyline isn't great, but author does create realistic description of the setting.

I love Dorothea Benton Frank's books, particularly the last three I have read, and I have read all of them except the new one. She seems to have developed her characters with
stronger personalities and also her plots although they are not "cozy mysteries" which
I usually choose to read! Also, if you are familiar with South Carolina and Charleston as well as the coast of SC, you may like these!

The reviews of this book were not good, but I ordered it anyway, since I love the lowcountry books from Frank. I actually enjoyed this book and I'm glad I read it. It's a tale of young girl fresh out of college who is giving up a year of her life (so she feels) to house sit for the family's island home.She's young and foolish and gets herself into a mess, but she's likeable and she matures at the end of the book.

As a big DBF fan, and a lover of Sullivan's Island, I was glad I read this book. It was slow to start and I almost quit but it got better and I am glad I stuck it out. Not her best but what sequel ever is?

As the title suggests, this book takes us back to where it all began for Dorothea Benton Frank. This time around the focus is on the next generation, especially Susan's daughter Beth and Livvie's granddaughter. Cecily. I did not find this book to be as good as the first. Beth is simply not as much fun to spend time with. The culmination of all the plots near the end stained the credibility to the breaking point. I would have been happier going to Paris with Susan.

Dottie Frank revisits a character from her first low country novel and rekindles our love for her delightful prose. Highly recommended.

I love this author! She puts you right there in the middle of the salty sea air! I read Sullivan's Island before reading Return to Sullivan's Island. It laid the background for the families in both stories. I guess you could just read this book and love it, but I found knowing a lot of the family's background made me smile a lot more at certain parts. If you love tales of generations, beach stories,and intriguing families-this book is for you!
