This was the first William Shatner authored Star Trek book I read. And what a book to start with. This is a fantastic read. Who better to write a Kirk resurrection book than Shatner?

Romulans use mysterious and ancient Borg technology that has been enhanced in alien ways to resurrect the dead body of James Kirk. They also mind wipe him and make him think he has to kill certain key members of Starfleet. Picard has to track Kirk down and make him remember who he is to stop the killing. Very good book.

We also get to see cool "black ops" Starfleet crews specifically outfitted to fight the Borg. Sleek black ships and uniforms. Great, great idea that I think, wasn't taken far enough and need to be explored in more books.

I highly recommend this. I didn't realize it, but this is Part II in Shatner's "Odyssey" trilogy. Book 1 was Ashes of Eden and Book 3 was Avenger. However, I didn't know this while reading it and it didn't hinder my enjoyment of the book.
