This is the imaginative tale of Lady Katherine Beresford and Lieutenant Charles Heywood. Having completed her first Season, Kate is disenchanted with the prospect of another Season in London. Despite receiving numerous offers, she yearns for a 'hero' to capture her heart.
Charles Heywood has spent eight years at sea and wants a quiet life in England. Kate and Charles briefly meet over a mangy pup in London. Charles claims the dog as his and leaves the scene. Kate realizes that he doesn't own the dog but wants to save it and thus claims the biting dog.
These stories should be read in order; I read the fourth one before this one, and reading this novel was a disaster. There is a fair amount of overlap in the stories, which makes this book seem redundant. Also, Lady Kate acts too far afield from someone of the ton. She is chasing Charles and is blatant about it. Overall score = G+.

Very enjoyable, just not quite as emotionally satisfying as many of this author's other titles. 3.5 stars.
