An immortal warrior, given the power to make right what once went wrong in a time not his own.

The Black Maclean Returns

What is this world he has awoken into -- where metal "monsters" roar down smooth stone paths and people parade in unfamiliar costumes? Where is the home that once stood on this pile of ancient rubble? And who is this woman who sees him when no one else can ... and who stirs the fire in his soul?

Her research into the legend of a notorious 18th-century Highland chieftan has brought Arabella Ryan to Scotland's storm-swept Loch Fasail. And now the Black Maclean himself has invaded her dreams. The sensuous caress of her mysterious "ghost lover" is no mere fantasy, lifting Bella to heights of ectasy she never imagined existed. But fate has a reason for bringing them together across the centuries -- a perilous mission that could change history as it tests the power of their desire and their love.

Historical author Bella Ryan is fascinated by a portrait of the legendary Morven Maclean, an 18th century Highland Laird who removed his troops from Culloden but then allowed his clan to be slaughtered by the English. "Black" Maclean has spent 250 years 'in-between' worlds, and is given a second chance at mortality, but he needs to right the wrongs of his legend. Wrongs his actions directly caused. He goes back to his land, at Loch Fasail, where Bella is trying to research her book about his life. A ghost, he has no power to change time, but gradually is able to be seen--and felt--by Bella. Can their love return him to mortality? But how can he change something that happened in the 18th century when he's now in the 21st century? Fate has brought Bella and Maclean together across the centuries for a purpose that will endanger them both and test the boundaries of their love, and perhaps change history.

Excellent storyline and great writing. There were no dull moments in this book. Very enjoyable. I had my guesses about the ending, but right to the end, I wasn't sure which one she would go with. I was very glad for the one she picked! I enjoyed the characters and the plot. A real gripping story, I read it in two sittings!

I don't normally read romance, but this one caught my eye because of the timeline element, and I was very glad I read it. Hats off to Mackenzie! I may have to try more of her stuff!

Forewarning: This book does contain very explicit sex scenes and language. I would say it qualifies as being in the "Blaze" category. But, I enjoyed it very much nonetheless!

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I was going to. It has a nice storyline of something other than just plain sex.

I was very prepared to find this book cheesy. However, Ms.Mackenzie spins a wonderful tale of love, adventure and redemption. I am now reading the second book in the series and have just ordered the third... I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a well written, passionate love story with characters that come alive on each page. Enjoy!
