Story sounded good, but the execution was unsuccessful. Just a very scattered book that didn't hold my interest. This is from the back of the book:
NINA IS DEAD AND MUST MAKE AMENDS.
In life she refused to use her unique ability to see whether a soul ascends to Heaven or descends into Hell. Now, as a guide through the Passage between the living and the dead, she steers departing souls to Purgatory. But peace is hard to come by, even in the afterlife. Good and evil are fighting for control over the Passage--and Nina is determined not to let Hell take over.

ROMAN BREAKS THE DEAD GUY RULES.
With his devilish charm and angelic looks, the newly-dead Roman can rally souls to fight--but on which side? His new Soul Retrieval Unit sounds like a good idea, but even in death, temptation lures Nina farther from salvation...or is she choosing Heaven by placing her soul into her lover's care.

The aforementioned Soul Retrieval Unit doesn't even get mentioned until halfway through the book. The sex/romance is ho-hum and then there is a weird backstory involving Nina and two men who were her "companions" who died with her 300 years before the story begins. I forced myself to finish it.
I hope it appeals to someone else.

All the good guy are already dead! But that does not stop them from taking on the bad guys to save life and after-life or from falling in love, either. Very different view of what goes on after death...who imagined there were rules?? Very different, very good.

A Good story with different premise than many Vampire/paranormal romances.
