I loved this book. It's a masterful tale of how simple folk can get into way too much trouble with no great exertion. Hilarious. Voltaire would bust a gut.

This guy cracks me up! This book is incredibly quirky, the most ridiculous story ever told. I highly recommend it.

What an amazingly funny little book! I wasn't expecting the laughs I got out of this and yes, I really did laugh out loud. My fellow library patrons, I'm sure, thought I was insane.

It's the type of humor Iris Murdoch used in "Under the Net," but done with two Scots and an Englishman. The characters grabbed my heart, completely, and I felt like buying all three of them a pint, especially Tam. Despite their serious, serious flaws, the characters were all endearing. Who would have thought that a book about fence makers would be so compelling.
