A fascinating book by one of the finest news correspondents ever. Cronkite's behind the scenes look at the infancy of television and the news reporting styles as we know them are great reading. There will never be another reporter like him.

I started reading this book but found Walter's witing style too boring, and stopped. Recently , I read a reference in Andy Rooney's book, "My War" stating that Walter Cronkite was a great reporter but not a great writer. Now I know why.

It was a great book about a wonderful reporter of our time.
I read part of it, it's full of anecdotes of the powerful from the 1950s and 1960s.
I miss him
Interesting stories and anecdotes from Mr. Cronkite's life, especially from WWII through the politics of the 1960's and 70's. Includes several stories about his interviewees and friendships with notable figures, celebrities and politicians, as part of his career with CBS. It was most interesting to learn details about the history of the time period since that was all taking place as I was growing up and as a kid, wasn't really paying that much attention to the news. So unless you have an interest in the time period, I can't imagine, for example, my own kids taking an interest in reading this--though it would be an easy read for a book report or biography assignment. His writing style is very casual and like listening to your grandfather
Excellent historical record of the news industry by the beloved Walter Cronkite, written when news was mostly unbiased. Learned and remembered so many historical events. I loved it, but then I grew up with him.
