I am always leery to read equine-related works because it is difficult for an author to portray horsemanship if they haven't been thoroughly immersed in it. This book does relatively well, but it is written much from an observer's perspective, not from someone who would have actually competed or ridden extensively. Small faults, such as the heroine riding dressage (the word means "training") in JEANS, give this away. (English riders always ride in either jodhpurs or breeches, both of which are tight-fitting and, typically, either tan (for normal work) or white (for competition). Jeans KILL you in the saddle when you're riding long-distance or actively. Other things, such as referring to Cross-Country portion of the Three Day Event as the Endurance event is obviously just misinformed. Some of her horse's actions I have never seen portrayed in other equines (although I have ridden in English events, and worked during the summer on a Colorado horse ranch, as well as having my own horses used for REAL endurance riding), such as "protectiveness" of their particular "master," although aggression in stallions is normal. Horses can prefer women over men, and vice versa, but it is more to do with body language (men tend to be aggressive, women less so) than a particular "thing" the horse has about individual sexes.
I also imagine that the clandestine officers of the various worldwide intelligence services would have something to say about the hero, as well; but I'm not qualified.
I would recommend this for someone not knowledgeable about horses; the mistakes just get a rider bogged down.

Good contemporary romance, but I enjoy Lowell's historicals better.
As Raine Smith heads to the Olympic Games for the equestrian event, little does she realize she's about to face her greatest peril in the arms of Cord Elliot, a man trained to protect her from sudden gunfire. Yet, from the moment Raine meets Cord's ice-blue glance, she knows he's more hazardous to her heart than a sniper's bullet.
excellent book to read this book I would read again without being asked again
A good book about a three day event rider who falls in love with her body guard who was hired by and works for her father in a covert US government anti-terrorist agency. The plot was good and I really enjoyed the book until about half into the romance. Then we see some of the same phrases over and over again. Also, for someone who realistically can describe the horse character, the behind the scences of a horse show, and the event itself made some huge description errors that chopped up the story for me. Like, describing her clothing she puts her in "black jodphurs with a knife crease" for the dressage competition???? I might be a little harsh on this book.
This is a heartwarming book about an equestrian and the FBI agent she falls in love with. He's forbidden to her, yet how can she resist?
Falling in love has never been so dangerous. Very good book for people with equestrian interests.
This book was very sensuous. I liked the fact that the main characters were drawn to each other from the moment they met.
A contemporary romance including danger, desire and temptation. The story takes place at the Summer Games (aka Olympic Games) with a woman equestrian, the man hired to protect her and the people trying to kill her. A nice read, especially if you're a horse-lover.
A good one. Olympics equestrian in danger because of her powerful father must be protected. Hot!
danger, desire and temptation span these short summer months...
Equestrian Raine Smith is about to compete at the Olympics. Cord Ellio is in her way, even if he is supposed to protect her.
it is interesting to see how the two come together while protecting her and competing in the olympics.
The most grueling challenge of Raine Smith's equestrian career looms before her -- the Olympic Games. Little does she realize that she's about to face greater perils in the arms of a stranger than she's ever found on the back of her horse.
Cord Elliot is a man trained to deflect disaster and his mission is to ensure that Raine Smith remains untouched by sudden gunfire at the Summer Games. Yet from the moment Raine Meets Cord's ice-blue glance, she knows he's more hazardous to her heart than a sniper's bullet. Falling for a man who answers to the call of intrigue and holds secrets that can never be shared is to endure the broken promises, unexplained absences, and constant danger that come with his profession. But in the fiery passion of irresistible love, a summer to remember seems worth any risk.

A reprint of an older book, Remember Summer is a bid by the author to capitalize on her success and name recognition. The story premise is interesting but the execution is rough. A better editor would have cleared up the glaring repetition and plot inconsistencies. Despite the sometimes ridiculous dialogue and unbelievable interactions of the characters, horse enthusiasts will find a lot of Olympic action and detail to distract them from the cliched romance and graceless writing style. For an Elizabeth Lowell fan, like myself, it was interesting reading to see where she started from and how much her craft has improved over the years.
Romantic suspense, Olympic equestrian and her bodyguard.
This books starts out slow, but gets going and gets going good. Cord is a dream and is a great character opposite Raine. I wouldn't say this is a horse book and you don't have to love or ride horses to enjoy this. Raine is an Olympic competitor in the equestrian arena, but the story revolves around the relationship that grows between Cord and Raine. You will enjoy this book.
