I wanted to like this book, but could not. Despite "a novel" being part of the title, this isn't a usual novel where characters are well developed, revealed over time to the reader and go through some growth. It is a story told in the style of the folk literature it draws from, which is not a bad thing......but disappointing when you want, well, a novel.
