A uniformed member of the Salvation Army is shot dead assassinated during a concert on the streets of Oslo. Who did it? And why?
Congratulations to Mr. Jo Nesbo, for crafting a murder mystery that kept me guessing up to the point when he chose to reveal details to the reader. And an attaboy is due for developing a set of characters who caught and kept my interest throughout the novel. Nesbo illustrated how each possessed abilities, honed through experience, to either detect truth or evade capture. However, not forgetting that Achilles could be harmed through his heel and Superman via Kryptonite, Nesbo reveals that his good guys had their flaws and the bad guys possessed some positive traits although, in one case, those were a front for even worse behaviors.
Normally, I try to read (or in this case, listen to audio book) of a series in sequential order. In this case, I was introduced to Harry Hole in the middle of the ongoing series. It may be my first visit, but it will definitely NOT be my last Ive already picked up 4 more books in this series.
RATING: I enjoyed this book, found few if any flaws, and it stuck with me thats how I define 5 stars.

Jo Nesbo scores again with another brilliant novel in the Harry Hole series. This is another series that I have been reading sporadically and of course, not in the proper sequence. But nonetheless even without reading in sequence, this series really is at a high level for a crime series.
In this one, Harry has to find his way through a series of twists and turns to find out who hired a Croatian killer to kill a high ranking member of The Salvation Army. When the killer mistakenly kills the wrong person (the brother of the killer's target), he must stick around Oslo to get things right. But is this a straight forward case of someone hiring a hit man? Or are other things involved that Harry must get to the bottom of? Harry tries to tie up loose ends and to do this he even travels to Croatia to find out more about the hit man and why the Salvation Army man was targeted. The novel contains a lot of symbolism about life and redemption and issues afflicting all including purposed men of God. Nesbo also really paints a bleak description of winter in Norway with a look at the darker places in the city including the grim places where drug addicts hide and congregate to try to avoid the cold.
This one kept me hooked and guessing right up till the end. Now I need to read the novels I have missed in this series (maybe even in the right order)...

Harry Hole does not disappoint at all!
What another wild intense ride with Harry in Oslo.
Quick paced and fast moving and keeps you on your A game in trying to work it out.
New beginnings, old friends, bad news and new starts.
Don't miss reading this Harry Hole book.
