Excellent. A heartfelt story by a woman who survived a hurricane while sailing from the South Pacific to San Digeo and her lover was lost in the storm.

At parts bittersweet and in others terrifying, Ashcraft's recounting of her days spent surving at sea after her fiance's death is nothing short of remarkable.
I've fished ever since I was a little girl, but know nothing about sailing. At times Ashcraft doesn't explain the technical side of what's going on, but I think that actually works in her favor. As a non-sailor, I didn't understand everything she explained she was doing (although there was a dictionary of common sailing terms in the back which was helpful), however I think I was drawn into the story more because she didn't stop to get technical. I couldn't help but be pulled along in her journey.
It's a quick, easy read at just over 200 pages and Ashcraft's writing has a subtly poetic tone to it, which at times is truly beautiful.

Having sailed a few times in my life, I was a bit hesitant to pick up this book....I was afraid I see myself in too many of the descriptions, and I was right! Tami Oldham endured an epic journey that few of us could have managed. While sailing from Tahiti to San Diego with her fiance, they tried to outrun a hurricane that came up quickly, and they lost the battle. All of their well-laid plans went terribly wrong.
Fairly well-written, though chocked full of sailing lingo, her story is one you won't want to miss if you are an adventurer at heart. If you like sailing, this is a don't-miss read.
