King Leo and Daphne have finally declared their love and have planned to spend their loves together. Yet evil God Ares wants Daphne (his half-sister) for himself and refuses to let Leo have her so he makes Leo mortal and ages him to quicken his death. Ares, thinking that once Leo is gone, Daphne will turn to him...as if. So instead of trying to cram a lifetime of love in the little time remaining, Daphne runs back to Olympus leaving Leo heart-broken again.
When I finished Red Demon I was looking forward to reading King Leonidas' story but what a boring trite start. I had the hardest time reading this book, I found that I just didn't care what happened to either Leo or Daphne. She's a simpering idiot and he's clearly lost his ever-loving mind. WTH happened to the fierce Spartan warrior he used to be? I put this book down after 49 pages and read 3 others and then forced myself to pick it up again since I needed and "R" book for a challenge (otherwise I would have given up). Around page 66 I found a reason to keep reading, Sable and Sophie. Sable is a djinn who is now a centaur (cursed by Ares of course). Sophie is an empathic healer who has fallen in love with Sable. The battle between good and evil rages strong in him though he is trying to leave the darkness for Sophie. Thankfully, their romance stole the spotlight from Leo and Daphne (at least for me) and allowed me to give a damn and finish this book. I love Deidre Knight's books but this one just didn't do it for me.
