This tale is based on research into the true life of Quaker Frances Slocum, aka Good Face and Maconakwa (Little Bear Woman)of the Miami tribe. The author points out in the author's note that there is also a Frances Slocum State Park in Pennsylvania and a Frances Slocum State Recreational Area in Indiana, where Frances lived at various times in her life. This one is well worth the time to read!

The book is based on the true story of Frances Slocum, a Quaker girl who was kidnapped at about the age of five by Delaware Indians and raised by them. Later she married a man of the Miami tribe and spent the rest of her life with this tribe. This is an amazing story of endurance, loyalty, friendship and passion and I couldn't put it down.
