Interesting premise, and for the most part a good page turner. Part thriller, part sci fi, it gets a bit too bogged down with the back and forth. The last section of the book (Book Five) was very confusing to navigate and I enjoyed it far less than the first four parts.
Wrapping my mind around the world in this story is mind blowing. I would give this story 10 stars if GR would let me. I read this book so fast everything took a back seat. Not my normal fare, but I'm definitely going through the authors back-list and trying everything else! What a page turner. I can't even tell you anything because I will inadvertently give something away! And that's a definite, I will. I know it.
"Memory makes reality" Recursion is an entertaining science fiction thriller about time, identity and memory with a time-travel aspect. The story is unique and nothing like anything you have read before. The book deals with FMS (False Memory Syndrome), a mysterious disease that drives its victims mad with memories of a life never lived. The disease is contagious.
Helena Smith, neuroscientist, wants to build a device to allow people to preserve their most intense memories. Barry Sutton, NYPD policeman, is investigating FMS as many people are reporting that they have contacted this disease. These two characters become the narrators for the story.
The novel is action-packed and the story is fast-paced which makes for a very interesting read. I have read Dark Matter and enjoyed that book too. I'm not really a science fiction buff but Crouch's writing is excellent and makes for a very easy-to-understand novel. I am now interested in what Crouch comes up with next. I would highly recommend this book to those who love unique science fiction thrillers.

Physically reading-wise I'm going to dnf. Maybe it'll be better if I listen to it. But I don't know. It went from interesting to boring in just 13%.
I liked Helena discussing what time really is, but that's about it. Crucial plot points seemed glossed over, like the loss of a kid, the mothers condition, building the chair, even life on that oil rig seemed paraphrased and it was talked about the most.
I couldn't finish the book. It was, for me, too badly written.

I don't normally read sci fi, but I was curious about Recursion by Blake Crouch after all the hype it's received. I really enjoyed this novel - what a ride!
With the intention of helping her mother who has memory loss, a scientist develops technology to capture strong memories and transport the person back in time to when the memory first occurred. Since this is a thriller, things go horribly wrong when the tech is used for unintended purposes by the wrong people.
Recursion was the ideal mix of reality, sci fi, emotions, and thought-provoking ideas. The audiobook narration by Jon Lindstrom and Abby Craden was excellent.

I have read some of Crouch's books that I really liked but I didn't like Dark Matter and I don't like this one
When it started out I thought it might be a good kinda creepy story but instead it evolves into a scientific unbelievable messy piece of crap, I thought with a detective involved it might be pretty good but instead it is just a messy story that is hard to follow

This is captivating and exciting to read! At times, it gave me a headache trying to wrap my head around things but it's a fun, wild ride!
