One cannot find much Indian HF and Sita Bhosale, the main character of this novel, is fictional yet her background, thoughts, and actions make this tale a fascinating one. As one reads the story we see Indian culture during takeover by the British. Sita becomes becomes one of the elite queen's guards. As she adapts to her role, we see how she grows into her new life.
The last queen of India (Rani Lakshmi known as the Rebel Queen) reigned during 1800s, the period of this novel. While she had many guards, the closest were her female guards, the Durgavasi, to which Sita belonged. As the Kingdom of Jhansi falls the queen loses power to the British.

This is a good, good well written read that brings to life an area of the world and its culture to inform readers of life as it was.
