I Was a Really Good Mom Before I Had Kids Reinventing Modern Motherhood
Author: Trisha Ashworth, Amy Nobile
"I don't know how she does it!" is an oft-heard refrain about mothers today. Funnily enough, most moms agree they have no idea how they get it done, or whether they even want the job. Trisha Ashworth and Amy Nobile spoke to mothers of every stripe working, stay-at-home, part-time and found a surprisingly similar trend in their interviews. After ...  more »

What a fantastic book about the reality of motherhood! The way the book is written is very clever. It is interspersed with confessions and comments of other moms (and dads) and it has quizzes and lists too! It is very easy to read. The only reason I didn't give it a full five stars is because there are a few colorful words in it, that I found unnecessary, but I'm sure the authors felt this made their book more humorous.

I thought this was going to be a humorous book -- it's not really. It does have its funny moments, but it's more of a self-help book. Like taking a step back and reading about what other moms (and dads) have to say about how being a parent really is. The kind of expectations we place upon ourselves which are practically unachievable. It's a quick read.

Cutsey book, but not really helpful. It's kind of like a b1tch session with your gal pals, but doesn't offer much advice that I found helpful.

It seemed more like I was reading some womans journal about how hard her life is taking care of kids. I am a mom of 3 and its hard, but this book seemed like the authors were whining the whole time. They make it sound like kids are more of a burden then anything else. It seemed a little self centered, while I do understand that there is a lot of pressure of moms, I do think this book blew it out of proportion.

This book is mainly geared toward mothers of kids 4 and younger. The main points that the authors bring out are good and the format is easy to read and follow. But, they seem not to realize that children can learn from people other than their parents. The book is also somewhat stereotypical and old fashioned about the roles of the mother and father...and assumes the mother does all or a large majority of running a household and raising the children. It basically ignored single parent families and issues. I got no help, humor, or entertainment from this book.

I loved this book! It's a must read for any mom. The authors make some great points about women and motherhood and do it with humor.
