Is She Really Going Out with Him? was my introduction to Sophie Cousens, and if it's a good example of her writing, I understand all the love for her books.
I enjoyed everything about this novel:
- Premise: Anna, our heroine, dates seven men selected by her young children
- Setting: Bath, England - not every book set in England has to take place in London.
- Secondary Characters: Anna's son and daughter, the men she dates, her coworkers and friends, even her ex-husband were memorable.
- Title: I hope it was inspired by the Joe Jackson song from the late 1970s.
The story is smart, funny, sweet, and steamy. Although I've never been a single parent nor divorced, I suspect her depiction of these situations was quite realistic. I also could relate to Anna's concern for her job and the challenges her workplace experienced. It was great to see growth in several characters over the course of the book.
