Another enjoyable wacky tale set in South Florida from Hiaasen. This one is a followup to BAD MONKEY which I read a few years ago. It could have been titled "The Further Adventures of Andrew Yancy" â Yancy is an ex-cop who had been demoted to health inspector in Bad Monkey. In Razor Girl, Yancy is still a health inspector handing out restaurant citations because of salmonella, cockroaches, or rats (some of which are a gigantic breed proliferating in South Florida). Yancy meets up with the titular razor girl, Merry Mansfield, who is a kidnapper for the mob using her charms by shaving her pubic area while ramming a car to perform the kidnapping. The mob had targeted the owner of a sleazy beach renourishment company for kidnapping but instead the producer of a redneck reality show is kidnapped by mistake. The TV show is about a family of Cajun rooster farmers headed by Buck Nance who is in Florida to promote the show. When the producer doesn't show up, Buck performs a stand-up routine that was filled with racial and homophobic jokes which causes a riot in the bar resulting in Buck fleeing. Yancy gets on the case to try to get reinstated as a police detective by trying to find Buck and to solve a murder of a muslim tourist that Buck may have committed. Not an easy task!

As usual this one was way over the top in the humor category and filled with very memorable characters. In addition to Merry Mansfield and Buck Nance, there is Blister, an ardent redneck fan of Buck's who is devoted to him in every way including honoring him with some rather disturbing tattoos. There are also members of the mob involved, a lawyer who wants to build on the lot next to Yancy, and his fiancee who tries to seduce Yancy to get what she wants. Another great satirical romp from Hiaasen. I still have a few of his books left that I haven't read and I'll be looking forward to doing so.
