Quick read. Lacks the suspense that other Sandra Brown books have. Nice beach romance book. Successful runway model quits and leaves New York to start a new life leaving the model behind. She settles at a boarding house in Texas. Enter her landlord's nephew who, of course, is intriqued by her and doesn't recognize her as the model she once was.

Wow! This book is AMAZING!

This one has got it all, and Sandra did an awesome job of interweaving it all in this enchanting tale about a woman, Rana, that has lost interest in her life as a model and being told what to do from her pushy nag of a mother. She walks away from it all, and starts a new life across country in Galveston, TX. Six months later is where the book actually starts, and she's made pals with the landlady, Ruby, from where she's renting.

Ruby's nephew, Trent, comes to the boardinghouse in need of rejuvination. His arm has been bothering him and it needs to heal in time for the new football season. So to pass time, he is fascinated by this woman that garbs herself in unflattering drab rags/clothes. Being irritating becomes his sort of enjoyment. Well, a rather awkward friendship starts between Rana and Trent... which develops into an attraction and *sparks* fly off the page.

It is amazing what Ms. Brown accomplishes in this intriguing piece of work. Sometimes it seems almost childish the way Rana and Trent pick at each other, or argue. But the love that develops between them is one of a kind. And Rana knows it is true because of the way she has disguised herself the past couple of months. And with mixed feelings from the other characters, Trent doesn't care what comes in the way of their happiness. He is determined... as is Rana.

There is still one mystery left. Trent doesn't really KNOW Rana is Rana. So, she has to doll herself up one more time for the ultimate test. Can he handle the real her?!

I was holding my breath and sitting at the edge of my seat to find out what came at the end.

This was the most stupid story I have ever read. I could not believe that this was Sandra Brown. I usually only read her mysteries, but wanted something different. I would definitey not recommend this story to anyone. Very shallow characters.

The modeling world called it the Rana Look...the exotic, one-of-a-kind allure that only supermodel Rana Ramsey could deliver. With her green eyes, olive skin, and wildly lustrous auburn hair, Rana posed for ad campaigns and strutted down runways all over the world, naming her own price to sell everything from cosmetics to women's lingerie. But all of that suddenly ended one day when she looked her demanding mother-manager in the eye and said, "Enough." That was the day Rana packed her things and left New York--and modeling--forever. Settling in Miss Ruby's boardinghouse in Galveston, Texas, Rana finds success with her own business--and cultivates a new look to go with her new life. Now her beautiful eyes are shielded behind tinted glasses, her famous figure hidden under shapeless dresses, her trademark wild hair falling straight down her back. Rana knows she'll never attract a man this way, and that's just fine with her--that is, until Ruby's nephew, football star Trent Gamblin, moves in to nurse his injured shoulder. Ruggedly handsome, charming, and undeniably charismatic, Trent is the kind of man that would never look twice at a woman as ordinary as the new Rana. But to her surprise, Trent seems unfazed by her Plain Jane look. For he is drawn to a beauty that Rana can't hide. He is determined to learn the mystery behind the elusive, reclusive boarder with the secret past. To do so, he proposes an unusual pact: they will only be friends, nothing more. As the days pass, Rana and Trent are drawn together in a sensual idyll unlike anything either of them has ever known. And Rana fears that when Trent learns the truth about her past, he'll feel betrayed and deceived. Even worse, he'll never be able to see her as she truly is. Then an unexpected tragedy strikes, and the stakes seem higher than ever.

Another good read by Sandra Brown. Although not a keeper, this book was well written.

With everyone wanting something from Rana and being judges and loved only because of her looks and what she can get them, it's no wonder Rana decides to leave it all behind and disappear from the lime light. Her love of clothing and art give her a new career. While living in a boarding house under a new name, she meet's her the home owner's nephew. He's a professional football player, sex on a stick and cocky. Completely turned off by his attitude she doesn't give him the time of day. While Rana, now Ana, now looks dowdy in clothing 10 times larger then her size and her eyes covered by tinted glasses it's only by sheer luck that she hasn't been recognized. But people see only what they see and eventually Trent falls in love with the woman she always was, but people didn't see. The problem is, Trent doesn't know that Rana and Ana are one in the same.

What a great story of love and seeing beneath what's skin deep.
