The first in the series of John Rain books. This is a good action story taking place in Tokyo. It has a twisting plot, but not misleading, and keeps you guessing who the good guys are. I will be sure to read the next in the series.
Helpful Score: 2
Hard-edged thriller featuring John Rain, a half-American, half-Japanese hit man living in Tokyo. First in a series and I will definitely be reading more. Good intrigue, lots of cultural detail about Japan and a likable main character, despite the despicable work he does.

fast paced hit-man thriller. stayed up most of the night reading this!
Helpful Score: 1
OK thriller. Hero is a half-Japanses half-American who lives in Japan and is a professional hit-man with a shadowy military past. Not nearly as good as Lee Child or Stephen Hunter novels.
Complex, fast moving. Crime in the Japanese fast lane
A series about a likable Japanese-American assassin.
John Rain kills people. For a living. His specialty: making it seem like death by natural causes. But he won't take out just anyone, The job must be an exclusive. The target must be a principle player. And he'll never murder a woman.
I just couldn't get into it, but the reviews are all good.
Superior modern thriller set in Japan. Definitely worth reading.
The first book of an excellent series with an interesting main character, John Rain who is an odd mixture of honor, integrity, and flaws and a trained assassin....
This is the first adventure of John Rain, a highly-paid assassin whose targets appear to die of natural causes. He also kills enemies who get in his way and clients who betray him. He is also very attractive to women.
Like "Hard Rain" this is a thriller set in Japan, and is unusual that way-- I enjoyed it.
Unusual, in that the main character is a hit man. This a a mystery and a love story.
just ok.
John Rain is a fresh new thriller hero destined to be one of the most talked-about of the season. Rain is based in Tokyo, trained by the U.S. Special Forces and a veteran of Vietnam, he is a cool, self-contained loner--and he has built a steady business over the past 25 years specializing in death by "natural causes."
John Rain kills people. For a living. His specialty: making it seem like death by natural causes. But he won't kill just anyone. The target must be a principal player. And never a woman. Half American, half Japanese-but out of place in both worlds-Rain is filled with opportunities. John Rain may not be a good man, but he's good at what he does...
Until he falls for the beautiful daughter of his last kill.
