This is book 7 in the Star Trek: New Frontier series that follows the adventures of Captain Mackenzie Calhoun and the crew of the starship Excalibur as they patrol a region of space that was once the Thallonian Empire. Since the Empire's fall, the whole region is in turmoil, so Excalibur has lots to do.

This one is a bit different from most of the books in the series, since it follows a young woman who is having troubling dreams and the several factions that are after her. She is rescued, several times, by a mysterious stranger called Xyon. But the pursuers keep coming.

The usual characters play little part in this book. Si Cwan, Kebron, and Soleta are the only ones who have much to do in this book. And even they are only minor characters.

The book is well written and is a pretty good adventure, but I miss the characters that usually inhabit theses books.

Peter David is great, I will read anything written by him. In the New Frontier series he gives us some fresh new characters to play in the Star Trek universe. His stories leave you clamoring for more.
