As someone who have never really played chess I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. The main character, Beth Harmon, is so consummately gifted whilst being terribly flawed that you can't help but root for her. I flew through this book and found its conclusion completely satisfying. I highly recommend this book. It has suspense and heart and is a great story of a lost girl who finds her way in the complex and male-dominated world of chess.

I LOVE this book. It's about a young girl who plays chess. And so much more. I know next to nothing about chess, but that doesn't seem to matter. Wonderful character analysis, unsentimental, empowering.... Read it.
