Akasha, the Queen herself, who has risen from a six-thousand year sleep to let loose the powers of the night, dazzles in this mesmeric storytelling. Akasha has a devious plan to "save" mankind and destroy Lestat--in this extraordinarily sensual novel of the complex, erotic, electrifying world of the undead.

Did you ever wonder where all those mischievous vampires roaming the globe in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles came from? In this, the third book in the series, we find out. That raucous rock-star vampire Lestat interrupts the 6,000-year slumber of the mama of all bloodsuckers, Akasha, Queen of the Damned.
Akasha was once the queen of the Nile (she has a bit in common with the Egyptian goddess Isis), and it's unwise to rile her now that she's had 60 centuries of practice being undead. She is so peeved about male violence that she might just have to kill most of them. And she has her eye on handsome Lestat with other ideas as well.

Anne Rice is one of only a handful of authors who's imagination has no limit. I love how she revisits the same characters throughout her other books. I enjoyed Interview witht the Vampire and the Vampire Lestat just slightly more than the Queen of the Damned, b/c I think the story of the twins was dragged on just a little longer than necessary. But still a wonderful book. I plan to read many more of her titles.

I went through an Anne Rice phase during college, and the Vampire Chronicles were my favorites of hers. I recommend this book for any fantasy/scifi fan or fan of Anne Rice's work. Also, if you're a fan of the movie, the book is MUCH better!

Book is amazing. She has definitely gotten better over time and this book just proves it. The movie did not do this book justice. For those of you that have seen the movie the book is a total 180 from the movie. The storyline is completely different, in a good way. I supremely enjoyed the book a lot more than the movie.

We have 'The Twilight Saga', the teenage vampire sensation, and we have the 'Sookie Stackhouse Novels', an addictively fun, genre-breaking, and much-more adult vampire series, but Anne Rice's 'Vampire Chronicles' will always be leader of the pack when it comes to the more epic tales of the undead. Starting with the classic 'Interview with the Vampire', Rice then explored the past of her favorite bloodsucker, Lestat, in Book 2. Now, in 'The Queen of the Damned', the 3rd book of the series, Anne Rice takes her readers into totally unprecedented territory, travelling eons in time and unknown miles in geography to tell the tale of the evil Akasha, progenitor of all vampires in history, while also expanding the story of Lestat himself and effectively introducing other supernatural beings into what was before a vampire-only world. This is an amazing novel full of interesting characters, themes, and set-ups, and the unique history of the vampires that Anne Rice has conjured is undeniably engaging, while also being very dark. If you've read the first two books in the series, do not torture yourself any longer...grab this book and be amazed and the universes (yes, plural) that Anne Rice has created for you.

I enjoyed this one much more than the _The Vampire Lestat_. Perhaps because there was a great deal more action, or perhaps because there were more familiar characters.
The different voices throughout the book were very interesting and I must admit that I enjoyed the others more than Lestat.
It would be, however, impossible not reading this back-to-back with _The Vampire Lestat_, as they flow together rather seamlessly. And while I am curious as to what happens next (and I do have the next book) I think I need to take a bit of a break, as the sections that move slowly, absolutely drag on and I don't really have the stamina for that right now.

This is book 3 in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. I loved this book just a little more than I loved The Vampire Lestat. I think I enjoyed this one more because there was far more action, and more vampires were introduced into the story.

This is my absolute favorite of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, and the wear and tear on my copy is true testament to that. Her history of how the vampires came to be and how all the various vampires are intertwined makes for a great read. The different pov's through out the book could have made reading it somewhat difficult, but for me it simply added much more depth to the whole story.

If you can manage to get through the first part of this book, it's a very good read, just slower than the rest of the Vampire Chronicles. If you've seen the movie but haven't read the book, you really should read the book, so much was changed/left out of the movie.

This is book three in the Vampire Chronicles that began with Lestat and Interview With The Vampire. I loved this series of books. The Queen of the Damned is Akasha, the root of all evil. She is a terrifying character. There is a bit of the occult, a bit of mythology and a bit of Egyptian history all combined to make a fascinating, imaginative read. This is a sultry novel with erotica and violence. Not for young readers.

If you felt that the previous books in the series weren't gory and erotic enough, this one should quench your thirst (though it may cause you to omit organ meats from your diet). It also boasts God's plenty of absorbing lore that enriches the tale that went before, including the back-story of the boy in Interview with the Vampire and the ancient fellowship of the Talamasca, which snoops on paranormal phenomena. Mostly, the book spins the complex yarn of Akasha's eerie, brooding brood and her nemeses, the terrifying sisters Maharet and Mekare. In one sense, Queen of the Damned is the ultimate multigenerational saga. --Tim Appelo
