I was pleasantly surprised...I struggled with the prequel (Sacred Hunger) but this was much easier, probably because I knew the characters already, and there were a lot fewer of them.
If you read Sacred Hunger, The Quality of Mercy is a must read as the follow-up. As usual, Unsworth leaves some loose ends and keeps one wanting more.
