I think this is Hackman's first attempt alone, I can give it a 3 star but it is kind of on the mediocre side.
The story has been done by nearly every author so it doesn't have a lot of suspense to it and not much of a thriller. I had a hard time with characters and attitudes and there was too much cliche in the way they talked, I doubt if law enforcement uses a lot of please and thank yous and you're so kind and etc etc. so it was hard to swallow that, but it wasn't riddled with foul language, had some but not overmuch, and there was no romance involved which was refreshing you didn't have to wade through that scenerio.

I liked it. This is the first of Mr. Hackman's books that I have read. I think the characters are well defined and interesting and true to form of how people might act in such circumstances. The story was easy to follow and took some turns I didn't expect....other turns I wish hadn't turned that way! I was not disappointed and glad to know that Hackman can write as well as being a fine actor. Talented man. :)
