I used to love the Mrs. Murphy series. The early books in the series were fun to read. But the last 3 books in the series have been more about Rita Mae Brown's social and political views than about the cozy mystery series. This one was no exception -- Brown rails on the Republican party and its views on economics, abortion and other issues, while the mystery portion of this book falls flat. Characters have long discussions about politics and the mystery portion of the story is slow to develop, and a bit uninteresting.
I wish the series still had the fun and sweet feeling that it once had. I want to read about 3 pets helping their owner solve mysteries, not sweeping commentary on politics, gay rights and abortion by the author.
I'm going to pass on any more books in this series. The earlier books are great....the new ones just aren't an enjoyable read, IMO.

I was very disappointed in this book. I have read all of the Mrs. Murphy mysteries and have really liked all of them. But this one did not get past the 50 page test. When I read a mystery, I like to read a mystery. The beginning pages of this book read like a political advertisement that could have been written for last month's elections. It certainly is well within the rights of Ms. Brown to write anything she wishes. But I guess I just don't want to have to read it.

Another great Mrs. Murphy. Brown is never dull and her characters are as sharp as ever.
Harry better give those 3 an extra snack for the next year, for what they did for her!!!

Most recent in the Mrs. Murphy series....book ended a little anticlimatic but other than that, I enjoyed it immensely.
Not a Purrfect story.
Disappointment-I really found it hard to get through the book.I agree with other reviews too much politics and not enough mystery. It was more fun when Harry and Fair were still courting.I think this series has "jumped the shark"

I was rather disappointed in this book. There was a murder, true, but there was also a very heavy-handed exposition of the author's view point on abortion. Even if you agree, it was not well done. The characters discuss the murder situation as if they were reading from a printed political statement. The animals are still cute, the people are less so, and the story leaves much to be desired. Great illustrations.
