Good book on the Inland Northwest - Eastern Washington, Northern Idaho and Western Montana. Beautiful desert, mountains, and farms.

"Stretching between the Cascades and the northern Rockies, the Inland Northwest is a diverse land of sagebrush desert and glaciated mountains, cedar forests and lush farmlands. Combining the eye of a naturalist with the heart of an artist, Jack Nisbet illuminates this country through stories about the resilient individuals who inhabit it and the natural history that defines it. He infuses his tales with gentle humor, connecting the human and natural histories to a larger span of time and community. The result is a memorable collection that captures the spirit of a place called Purple Flat Top."
