The Pure Gold Baby is the story of single mother Jess and her special needs child Anna. For me, the story ends up confusing because it is told as a first person narrative through the eyes of one of Jess's friends. The book also jumps over big parts of Anna's life and also goes off on tangents about Jess's work as an anthropologist, the neighborhood they live in, and the treatment of special needs children.
