I bought this book because I don't know anything about the Incas and nothing about Peru. This book far exceeded my expectations. I was hooked by page one and the writing remained fascinating all the way through the story. Without being horribly graphic, the beliefs and practices of the Incas are explained, along with a mesmerizing story line. Descriptions of the land and the people are interesting. This is the first book of three about these people, but the book doesn't end on a cliff hanger. It is fully enjoyable on its own.

I am looking forward to reading the next two books in the series (and glad that I bought them at the same time)! :-)
